“Anything I put before my God is an idol
Anything I want with all my heart is an idol
Anything I can’t stop thinking of is an idol
And anything that I give all my love is an idol”
How did your heart respond to those words? Mine gave a big phat push back. Oh, I’m sorry, you thought more of me than to think I would recoil at such weighty and profound truth? Well, I’m just being honest. Those words threatend my comfort and turned a blazing search light in the deep places of my dark heart. But with the words, I hear a still small voice saying, “Don’t fight it. Embrace the exhortation. Rid your heart of the stuff that jousts to take the place that belongs only to me.” God has a way of being direct.
Those words are just one small part of a massive song that God is using to start the fires of real revival. It’s called “CLEAR THE STAGE”. It really is one of those songs that enters into your heart and performs deep surgery. Listen to this line,
“Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that’s the measure that it takes to crush the idols.
Chuck the pews and all the decorations too
Until the congregations few then have revival.
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends
until you’re broken for your sins you can’t be social…”
Sort of painful isnt it? But dont think it’s just a “get all up in your grill song”. No, it’s also full of inspiration, as the music swells and pulls you upward, helping you soar beyond the clutter of our culture into the wide open spaces made just for you and God to worship together. It helps you make space in your heart for a fresh encounter with Jesus.
Jimmy Needham and I are taking this song on the road. It is going to be a much desired break for me from the bright lights and cluttered stages of Arenas. We are headed to local churches; the place where God meets His people every week. It’s there that we will seek to encounter Him and experience one of the rich lines of the song, ” Seek the Lord and wait for what he has in store and know that great is your reward and just be hopeful”. Truth is, most people who call themselves Christians cant stomach this kind of night. It’s to raw and real for them. But for those who dare to join us and clear their stage, it will be astonishingly rewarding!
See you there,
